Professor at NUST

Graduated from AIMC in 1983, MCPS in Clinical Pathology (1988) and FCPS in Chemical Pathology (1995) from AFIP. He is trained in Pediatric Metabolic Disorders in London and attended courses on Biorisk Management in USA. With nearly 140 publications, authorship of 7 books, and over 110 scientific presentations, he has served in diverse roles including at a UN hospital in Croatia, and as Chief Editor of PSCP Newsletter and the Pakistan Journal of Pathology. Awarded FRCP by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2011 and is currently a Professor at NUST School of Health Sciences, Islamabad.

He is a highly experienced clinical pathologist with over 25 years of expertise in infectious diseases, HIV, and STIs. He holds an MCPS in Clinical Pathology, a fellowship in HIV and STIs from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Master's in Infectious Diseases from the University of London. Dr. Ashraf has trained hundreds of healthcare professionals in child survival, ARI control, and HIV management. He oversees a state-of-the-art clinical laboratory in a 200-bed tertiary care hospital and is actively involved in research and external quality assurance programs. He also plays a key role in the Sindh AIDS Control Program, providing HIV testing, counseling, and surveillance.

Since March 2021, he has been the Director of Clinical Laboratories - Outreach at Indus Health Hospital and Health Network.

He holds over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, molecular diagnostics, and training, with expertise in PCR, real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, NGS variant interpretation, cytogenetics, chromosome analysis, and FISH. He has significantly contributed to establishing molecular pathology labs in Karachi, Pakistan, and regularly conducts educational sessions and workshops to train and produce skilled manpower for academia and industry.
